Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH) has been creating extraordinary adventure vacations in Western Canada for almost half a century. Starting in the mid-1950s, a young Austrian immigrant named Hans Gmoser began offering adventurous skiers and climbers a chance to really explore the backcountry of the Rockies. By 1965, building on the success of these treks, Gmoser added a helicopter to his operation and CMH 'heli-skiing', as it became known, was born. Within a few seasons, CMH was transporting thousands of enthusiasts to the Bugaboos and Purcell Mountains.
Today, CMH operates throughout the year by offering heli-hiking and mountaineering trips from June-September and heli-skiing in the winter months. Guests are treated to an exceptional outdoor experience every day of the 3-7 day trips, followed by an equally extraordinary indoor experience at one of eleven beautifully equipped mountain lodges at day's end. CMH treats the mountains and its inhabitants with the same care it demonstrates towards its guests. Every one of CM's environmental and educational initiatives is an extension of founder Hans Gmoser's philosophy of sustainable wilderness-based tourism. By minimizing the impact CMH has on the mountains and the wildlife that inhabit them, skiers, hikers and climbers can expect to see their children and grandchildren enjoying the same natural beauty years from now.
