Geographic Expeditions was created in 1981 (as Inner Asia Expeditions) to develop and operate specialized travel programs in remote, difficult to reach, regions. It was the first American Company to negotiate protocols with the Chinese government to operate tours into Tibet and western China, and also pioneered travel in Tibet, Bhutan, Mongolia, Vietnam, Burma, Patagonia and remote areas of the former Soviet Union.

In the 20+ years since its inception, Geographic Expeditions has expanded from its central Asian roots to include trips to virtually every corner of the world. The company strives to provide travelers with unique experiences, and a high level of comfort, even in extreme environments.

Currently, Geographic Expeditions provides travel services for close to 5,000 guests. Along with its comprehensive selection of organized adventures, Geographic Expeditions works with individual travelers, small groups, and corporations to create custom trips tailored to the group's or individual's needs.
